PHILLIPS, Bert Carl - July 25, 1925 - October 31, 2009 - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bert Carl Phillips. Bert dies as he lived with dignity, integrity, respect for those around him and love for his family. He fought cancer bravely and died peacefully at home on October 31st, 2009. Honouring his wishes, a private family service was held. Bert served on the RCAF from 1942 - 1945. He was stationed in Yarmouth Nova Scotia, and also Goose Bay Labrador. After honourable discharge from the service, Bert returned to his hometown of Biscotasing and married the love of his life Gertrude (Thelma). He also succeeded his father in the position of Dam Regulator for the International Nickel Company (INCO), on the Spanish watershed. Bert retired from INCO in 1980 after 36 years of exemplary service. Bert is the son of Colin Charles and Ida Maude Phillips (both predeceased). He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Gertrude (Thelma) (nee Legace), his children Lorraine Riordan (Tim), Brian (Kim), Colin (predeceased), Christopher (predeceased), Linda Vlach (Charlie), Darren (Bernadette) and Cindy. Bert was the proud and devoted Grandpa/Poppa to Rachel, Jennifer, Sarah, Alana, Heidi, Wylie, Quinn, Elijah, Derek, Dylan and Terrence. He was also blessed with four great- grandchildren; Connor, Georgia, Shepard and Maddoc. The family would like to especially that Doctors Bilgasem, Robinson, Maki and Tenhunen. Also the exceptional help and care received from CCAC and all Bayshore nurses. If so desired, donations in memory of Bert can be made to NEORCC or Maison Vale Inco Hospice. The world is a little darker for the passing of a true light Bert shone in his love, his selfless acts of kindness and integrity which guided his actions and his words We will love you always. Private family funeral was held at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. Thursday, November 5th, 2009. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium. (No public visitation).
