BURNS, Shirley - Long time resident of Port Colborne, Shirley Doreen Burns passed away peacefully at Portal Village on November 3, 2009. Shirley was born in Port Colborne January 17, 1922 to Owen Raymond Russell Haggerty and Bernice Rosamond Lindsey. Her early life was in Port but as a young mother with 2 daughters she moved to Copper Cliff with her husband where they spent nearly 30 years until his retirement when they returned to Port. She will be remembered by her friends in the north as an avid and competitive curler. She was predeceased in 1998 by George Emmett Burns her husband of 57 years and is survived by her 2 daughters Linda (John) Lamacraft and Judy (Larry) Mantle and 3 grandchildren Scott Lamacraft, Tara Lamacraft and David Mantle and 4 great grandchildren Owen, Esme, Sabine and Malcolm Lamacraft. She has 3 surviving brothers, Raymond, James and Richard Haggerty and was predeceased by her brothers William, Keith, Charles and Jack and her only sister Norma Ahman. A private family service was held at St. James & St. Brendan's Anglican Church, Port Colborne Saturday November 7 at 11:00AM. A private interment will be held at a later date.
