HARKONEN, George Tuomas - In loving memory of George Tuomas Harkonen, 74 years, who passed away Sunday, October 4th, 2009 at his home. Beloved husband of Kaisa (Angervuori) Harkonen. Loving father of Anne of Newmarket, Jaana of Toronto, Helen (husband Ned Yokich) of Kitchener and Eric (wife Donna) of Barrie. Cherished grandfather of Teija, Maiya, Nathan, Hanna, Colin and Ella. Dear son of Eero and Elli both predeceased. Dear brother of Jorma Harkonen and Esa Haapa-Aho both of Finland. Born in Finland, George worked 40 years as a miner in Manitouwadge and Elliot Lake, retiring from Rio Algom in 1997. He enjoyed the outdoors, moose hunting, fishing and picking blueberries. George was an avid curler, a fan of the Olympics and he was proud of building his own home on Paddy Lake. He took great joy spending time with his 6 grandchildren. As George wished a private family gathering was held. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mining Hall of Fame in Elliot Lake or the Canadian Cancer Society.
