BRUCE-LOCKHART, Dr. Paddy (PBL) - In loving memory of Dr. Paddy Bruce- Lockhart (PBL) - A Life Well Lived. Eternal Optimist, Gentleman and adoring Family Man who leaves us at the tender age of 91. Spent a childhood separated from his family battling tuberculosis, never acknowledging a handicap as a limitation. A member of the Scottish Fencing Team, he worked his way through medical school in Edinburgh. Spent time in India during WWll with the British Army and lived by his principles to treat all people in need, regardless of economic class, in a time where that concept made many uncomfortable . . . Eternally appreciative of those who took the time to help him, he actively sought out every opportunity to extend a similar kindness to others. He moved to Sudbury in 1953 as an OB/GYN where he lived out his life and medical career, spending the next 40 years delivering well over 10000 children including three generations in some families. Practiced medicine into his 80's, saved countless lives, treasured the importance of honesty, and with a soft fatherly voice always took the time to ensure his patients knew they weren't a number. As a champion for Northern Ontario, he made significant contributions to establishing accessibility for Health Care, a range of programs for the Arts, and post secondary Education. He committed endless hours to the betterment of Medicine in Canada, in a range of roles that included President of the Ontario Medical Association, Speaker of Council for the Canadian Medical Association and Chief of Obstetrics at the General Hospital. He was named Emeritus Professor by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Described by his peers as a man who always acted with Exceptional Quiet Competence. Paddy loved music, sailing, golf, fishing, and especially teaching. A life long learner, he liked nothing better than working with his children and grandchildren. A man of great compassion and patience, he also had the gift of contentment. He leaves behind a loving wife Eve, and the legacy of a proud and grateful family of six children and eight (soon to be nine) grandchildren.
