Cameron, Alexander

August 7, 2009 82

CAMERON, Alexander (Alex) - It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Alexander (Alex) Cameron on Wednesday, August 5 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Alex was born on September 28, 1926 to Samuel and Euphemia Cameron (predeceased) in Cape Breton Nova Scotia, the second of fourteen children. He started working at a young age and had various jobs that took him across Nova Scotia and the Maritime provinces. He made his way to Ontario finally settling in Sudbury in the early 1950s to work in the mines. He was one of the first employees of MacIsaac Mining and Tunnelling and he remained with the company for more than 40 years. Alex married Helen (nee Halbert) in 1954 and together they raised a family which grew to include eleven children, 30 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He believed that there was no point in doing something if you were not going to do it well. This belief showed in his work, his commitment as a husband, and his role as a father. Family was important to Alex and nothing made him happier than to have a house filled with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Alex is survived by his wife Helen of Sudbury, his daughters Jean Cameron of Niagara Falls; Heather Gagnon (husband Chip) of Sudbury; Dale Mason (husband Carl) of Okotoks, Alberta; Lynn Mercier (husband Chester) of Sudbury; Sandra Memhet (husband Chico) of Sudbury; Carolyn Cameron of Sudbury; Laurie Pollock (husband Fred) of Sudbury; Shelley Gagnon (husband Rob) of Sudbury; Vickie Cameron of Sudbury; Valerie Smith (husband Jim) of Sudbury, and his son Ken (wife Tracey Whitehouse) of Sudbury.
