Foligno, Janis

July 29, 2009 47

FOLIGNO, Janis Louise (Giacomin) - (1961-2009) It is with deepest regret to announce Janis' passing on Monday, July 27th, 2009 at Vale INCO Hospice, surrounded by her loving family and friends, after a courageous fight against cancer. Janis, age 47, was born on August 12th, 1961 in Sudbury. She was the loving daughter of Mary (Tosato) and Giglio Giacomin (predeceased). She will be greatly missed by her husband Mike; their children Cara of Toronto, Lisa (fiancé Dan), Nicholas of Ottawa, and Marcus; her siblings, Valerie (Mauro Zuliani) of Sudbury, Joe Giacomin (Cynthia) of Los Angeles, Christina (Denis Joyal) of Saskatoon, Paula (Dan Theriault) of Sault Ste. Marie; sisters-in-law Teresa (Don Topolnisky) of Sudbury, and Carla (Scott Gasparini) of Toronto. She will be missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Janis has been married to Mike her high school sweetheart and best friend for 27 years. They raised four children Cara, Lisa, Nicholas and Marcus, who Janis held as her proudest accomplishments. As a mother she taught her children to be strong in faith, loving, respectful, and always appreciative of the close bond they share. She was and always will be her children's biggest fan. Janis was a regular at the Sudbury Wolves games and in usual attendance for Ottawa Senators games on television when she couldn't be there in person. She was a devoted wife, she supported Mike throughout his NHL hockey career moving to different cities and touching the hearts of those she met along the way. Janis was an avid athlete herself. She grew up playing ringuette, volleyball and track and field. She volunteered her services for many charities, including Meals on Wheels and Cancer Fundraising. Janis has created many lifelong friendships. She was a great listener, advisor and never hesitated to join a friend on a shopping trip, a walk, or share a glass of wine. Janis enjoyed the home she and Mike built together on the lake. She decorated it with a warm, yet creative style, always making family and friends feel welcome. All who knew Janis were touched by her love, care, concern and huge heart. She was a quiet force behind her family, never wanting the limelight, but was their pillar of strength. Janis' faith continued to be strong throughout her illness and her sense of peace brought comfort to all around her. Janis lived her life to the fullest, making fond memories and leaving her legacy in her husband, her children, and her friends. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury.
