Guitard, Donat

June 25, 2009 74

GUITARD, Donat - It is with deep sorrow that the family of Donat Guitard announces his death in Sudbury on Thursday June 18 at the age of 74 years. Donat Guitard was born July 14, 1934 in Belledune New Brunswick. He rejoiced in telling “old stories“ from his past ranging from his early childhood in NB during the Second World War, his work in the lumber camps of Quebec, his labour on the rail road in NB and his ultimate employment at Sudbury's Inco in 1967 where he retired in 1994. He met his wife Claudette (née Michaud) at the Biscuit Vieau cookie factory in Montreal in 1958 and married her in 1960. From that union came three children. He enjoyed riding the back roads and trails on his quad and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Donat fought a courageous battle against cancer from 2003 until his passing at Laurentian Hospital on June 18, 2009. He departed on his last journey while surrounded by family members. He was also in the hearts and minds of the many family and friends who could not be in attendance. His sense of humour was second to none and a comfort to everyone during even his most difficult times. He died of cancer but his life conquered an illness that will never take him away from all of those who had the pleasure of meeting, knowing and loving him. Donat is survived by his wife Claudette Guitard(née Michaud), daughters Monique Lapointe and Lynne Guitard(Jean-Guy) and son André Guitard(Linda). He is the Grand Father of Josée, Rachelle, Christopher, Mélanie and Alexandra and the step grand father of Nico. He is a Great Grand Father to Shentel. Donat will be dearly remembered by many loving siblings and numerous friends. He will be sadly missed by all. Donat was cremated on June 22, 2009. There will be no funeral service. However, the family will receive relatives and friends at a celebration of life ceremony in August at a date, time and place to be announced in early August
